13 Reasons on why people give up

March 3, 2017 By Kris

Anatomy of giving up – And never give up!

Why do we give up? Below are 13 reasons on why we give up. Be mindful of these reasons, it will help you avoid its traps.

1. People are impatient.

When things don’t go their way, they give up.

2. They lose their belief in themselves.

Negative self-talks like, ” I’m not good at this.”. “I am not sure if I belong.” make you put yourself down?

Why? You have control over yourself. Don’t do it.

3. Get stuck in the past.

This is very common. It is easy to look at the past and compare the present. Unfortunately, the past is ancient history.

Make new history for yourself today. Learn from the past but do not live in it.

4. Dwell on mistakes.

We all catch ourselves thinking about mistakes we have made turning situations over and over in our heads until we get into a cycle of negativity resulting in paralysis.

Be mindful of when this happens and catch yourself from doing it. Like the past, you learn from mistakes.

It is not something to beat yourself up about over and over.

5. Fear the future.

We all fear the unknown and that is natural. Fear itself is fine but let’s manage it and get over it.

If a lion is running toward you, you can’t be paralyzed with fear. You should be running and get away. Act now.

Future is not as scary as you think and by the way,  remember you determine how your future will turn out anyway.

6. Resist change.

It is easy to get comfortable in what has always been. But change is what brings improvement. No change brings stagnation and decay eventually.

Challenge yourself and embrace change. And if you don’t like it, then move on and change it again until you are in a better place.

7. Give up their power.

Don’t give up on yourself. Many people because of frustrations, refuse to use the powerful capabilities they have innately in themselves.

You are not powerless. You are powerful.

8. Believe in their weakness.

Everyone has many weaknesses. Michael Jordan is most likely not a good carpenter (not confirmed) but a damn good basketball and golf player.

Does he dwell on his weaknesses? Why should you? Every one of us has many strengths. Recognize it and focus on it.

9. Feels the world owes them something.

That entitlement mentality is never productive. The moment you start to point your fingers, you are justifying your powerlessness.

If someone owes you something, then go get it. Act! Whining and pointing fingers just dig yourself deeper into your hole of despair and helplessness. And believe me, whiners are not very attractive.

10. Fear failure more than desiring success.

Fear of failure is a very common and we all face it. Again, how you deal with failure is how you will use it as fuel.

Envision failure as a learning experience. Learning is a good thing. It is an enlightening thing. Equate failure with it and you will not fear failure but welcome it.

Just as we seek out mentors to learn from them and just as we read books to increase our knowledge, failure is an amazing teacher of success. Don’t be afraid of it.

11. Feel they have something to lose.

This fear is all very real. Especially for those of us with family and a mortgage. What if I quit my job to start this and it doesn’t work out. How will I survive?

That self talk is normal and prudent even. Perhaps, to mitigate this you could side hustle and get on it slowly before you take the leap. Many folks do this.

Perhaps alternatively, you should boost your savings to a certain level so you have a cushion while you are working things out. There are many other options.

Short of your family and your health, there aren’t much you should worry about losing. Don’t give up or not start because of this fear.

12. Overwork.

We are all guilty of this. There are folks who advocate working 80 plus hours a week and only path to success.

I am totally for hard work but not at the expense of your physical and mental heath. Big goals take tons of work and time, this is also a marathon. You should pace yourself and listen to your body when it starts to tell you to rest. Make time to exercise and stretch. Make sure you set aside time with friends and family. Don’t compromise. The most successful folks I have seen, all have this in spades. They work hard but know what is really the most important thing.

13. Feel sorry for themselves.

When you feel sorry for yourself, you have already lost. When you feel sorry for yourself, you are making justifications for failure.

This puts you in negative thinking spiral that is very difficult to get out of. Be mindful of this and don’t let yourself get in this state.

The two wolves in your mind. Which one are you feeding?

February 6, 2017 By Kris

Start your Monday positively. You got this!

What an amazing story. Wisdom from an old Cherokee story.

You decide. What will you feed? The negative destructive voice in your head or the positive uplifting one?

Whichever voice you listen to, it will come true. If you found a Genie and it was ready to grant your wish, will you ask negative things for yourself?

Imagine that your mind is your genie. Ask for positive things to your mind. If you believe, it will come true.

Source: Zenpencils.com

Below is the legend. Enjoy and keep it firm in your heart.

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, “My son, the battle is between two “wolves” inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf wins?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

How to Focus: Guide from an 11 year old

December 15, 2016 By Kris

Advice from my son on focus

Below is an actual blog post from my 11 year old son David, who inspired this entire blog and the upcoming Focus app.

He has been working very hard on bettering his focus and his patience and it has worked out great for him.

His grades are up, he is happier and he is continuing to make great progress.

As a parent, it is such a rewarding gift seeing the results in my son from his efforts.

His approach can be applied to anyone. Not just other 11 year old ,according to David.

My Story

I used to have a hard time focusing, such as having to sit still for a period of time, or having trouble doing multiple things at once, etc… and honestly I still do.

I’m a very hyper and easily excited boy, but I got a LOT better, mentally, physically, and academically.

Let me tell you about some of the things to look out for. What I did that helped me.

  • Perspective:
    • In the movie, It’s “A Wonderful Life” a man has serious misfortunes happen one after another. Here are some of them.
    • At the age of 12, he lost hearing out of one ear after saving his brother’s life.
    • At the age of 21, his father unexpectedly dies and he takes on the business. The business fails and he uses his honeymoon money to save it. The business still fails to thrive. Then he faces fraud and jail.
    • He tries to go suicide off a bridge. Then an angel comes to him and shows him his life in a better perspective. The happiness of saving his brother. All his happy birthdays. When he met his wife. When he took on the business. When his children were born.
    • He looks at the angel, “I want to live!” He sobs.

This is a very extreme example but it has the same meaning. You have to be positive, smile, happiness is a choice, relax.

Smiling will trick your brain into being more cheerful.  Get a rubber band and catch yourself saying negative things, then snap yourself. Not so it hurts, but just a little sting.

It will help you become more self-aware.

  • Time Management:
    • Plan your day out, train your willpower, control yourself, meditate.
    • I plan my day out and it really helps.
    • After school give yourself a break, then study, I do piano and fencing and basketball and percussion so plan your activities too.
    • You could study for 30 minutes and then take a 10-minute break.
    • Early in the morning take a jog around the neighborhood, stuff like that.
    • A well-organized mind shows organized actions. It is a very good skill set to have in life.

  • Never Giving Up:

F.irst

A.ttempt

I.n

L.earning

These are some of my favorite sayings.

“Failure is a good thing if you learn from it.”-Me

“Fake it until you make it.” -Someone

“It’s either do or doo-doo.” – My band director

“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”-Albert Einstein

Don’t sweat it, it’ll be all right, just keep in trying. With enough repeating you will make it, just stay keen, positive, and patient, it’ll hit you. This is a VERY important skill you need to have.

Some more advice, Stay keen, positive, patient, learn to take criticism, never give up, manage your time well, stay calm, and keep a good perspective. Also, my parents helped a lot too, they are very supportive. Follow these guides and it will help you improve.

Trust me, it helps, I’ve lived through it.

Your perspective can change your life #Video #Inspire

December 10, 2016 By Kris

Choice is yours

Video below is a true story of twins who were born to an alcoholic father.

One twin grew up to a successful lawyer and the other became an alcoholic.

When asked by the researcher why they were in the positions they were in, they both responded, “because my father was an alcoholic”.

Twin

Lets unwrap this for a second. Twins with close as possible genetic makeup who grew up in the exact same household and family situation ended up polar opposite position in life.

One enjoying the success while the other living out the exact misery his Father went through and put his family through. They both point to their father’s alcoholism for their success or failures as an adult.

There have been many studies that have been done on this subject, for example, one done by Penn State and University of Notre Dame by Dr Robert Plomin and C.S. Bergemen titled Nature and Nurture,

it is clear that whatever hand you have been dealt in your life, your mentality and perspective of how it drives you will determine your ultimate outcome.

Nurture

The same can be true in an opposite.

There are many stories where a person born into prestige, wealth, fame throws it all away specifically because he/she resents that aspect of life.

For someone who doesn’t come from this, I always lament what a waste of an opportunity that person has done to his/herself.

Just like the fact that one can use a challenge to fuel themselves to be better, others will use it to blame their lot in life.

But many people do not realize the perspective you hold is your choice and under your control.

You control yourself.

Wouldn’t you want to be happy?

What perspective will get you there?

Enjoy the video below.

Two faces of fear #Inspire #Quotes

December 7, 2016 By Kris

What face of FEAR will you be wearing today?

I choose Face Everything and Rise.

Face our fear and stare it down. Use it as fuel to get yourself up and take yourself to the next level.

Fear is a normal emotion. Lets not give it more power than it deserves.

Mark Twain had a great saying about courage and fear. In short, how we deal with fear is what defines courage.

Use it as an advantage.

Check out this great video on how to overcome fear. Cease fear by its tail. Take control.

6 Scientifically validated principles of persuasion #Video

November 25, 2016 By Kris

Superpower of persuasion

What if you had superpowers like Professor Xavier of the X-Men? The ability to read minds and influence people that would be a neat power to have.

According to a well-known author Dr. Robert Cialdini’s book Influence: Power of Persuasion, there are 6 major scientifically proven principles of persuasion that used properly, can help us with harnessing this superpower.  The 6 principles are:

  • Reciprocity
    • People are obliged to give when you receive. When you do someone a favor, that person is more likely to do you a favor as well. Even a simple favor will raise the possibility of reciprocity.
  • Scarcity
    • People instinctively want more of those things that there are less of. Even a perception of scarcity can have a powerful persuasive ability. People are willing to pay a premium for something that perceive as being scarce.
  • Authority
    • People will follow credible knowledgeable experts. Your appearance, education and reputation can affect how people will perceive you. It could be even more powerful if someone else vouches for you and is still effective even when it is obvious the person vouching is viewed as not totally impartial.
  • Consistency
    • You can persuade someone to act on something bigger by having them commit to something smaller first.
  • Liking
    • You are able to better persuade people who like you. Usually, people like people who are similar, those who pay compliments to and those who cooperate with them. If you are trying to persuade someone, you should try to get the person to like you first (something in common, compliments made) before getting to the point of contention.
  • Consensus
    • People tend to follow the consensus of the group. If you can communicate that a significant portion of the people act a certain way for a good reason, then the odds of persuading the person to act the same way is much higher.

These power of persuasion is being used on us all the time. When you see ads on television or on the web, at its base level, it is appealing to these 6 principles outlined.

Do you want superpowers? Power of persuasion is definitely reality and not fiction.

9 Things you must do to move forward to be a success.

November 21, 2016 By Kris

What are you willing do?

1.Live in the present. Don’t live in the past. Learn from the past and use it for the present.

2. Don’t be ashamed of your past failures. What matters is the what you are doing now. Your past does not define you.

3. Don’t care about what other people think of you. Don’t let it control you. It’s what you think about yourself that matters the most.

4. Focus on the positive thing in your life. What you focus on is what will come to pass. Be grateful for the present.

5. Face your problem head on. Running from your problem will not make it go away. When you run away, there will always be another problem to deal with eventually.

6. Never make excuses. Making excuses and blaming others is detriment to your progress.

7. Don’t procrastinate especially when its comes to achieving your goal. Get started right away. You should have started yesterday. If there is one thing I regret today the most is putting off the next chapter in my life because of laziness and comfort. You only  get a finite amount of time. Don’t waste it. No riches in the world will bring your time back.

8. Be decisive on what you want. Then pursue it without delay.

9. Don’t ever choose to nothing. That is a choice to never move forward.
